ED: Coronaproof volunteering in the Eindhoven region

EINDHOVEN - Everywhere in the Eindhoven region, people are standing up who want to do something to help the elderly and sick through this difficult Coronation period. But how can you help safely and how do you know who needs help? Samen voor Eindhoven will use its online volunteer platform for this purpose.

Samen voor Eindhoven has been working for years with companies such as ASML, NXP and Philips and social organisations in the city. Director Esther Hofstede: Many workers are now sitting at home because of the corona measures. They want to mean something for others." This week, Hofstede started consultations with large care institutions in Eindhoven, such as Vitalis and Archipel. We want to prevent them from being inundated with well-intentioned actions. We want to see what exactly is needed, and how companies and volunteers can help 'coronaproof', with remote attention. With our online volunteer calendar, we now offer one central place to

Red Rose by Philips

Residents of residential care complexes are at risk of loneliness due to the Corona crisis: they can no longer receive visitors. But they can send a card or a nice drawing. Such an action took place on Wednesday at Vitalis Berckelhof in Tongelre. And on Friday, 150 clients of Archipel Eerdbrand will receive a red rose through Samen voor Eindhoven - partly thanks to a contribution from Philips.

Dommelhoef wants digital bingo

There is also an important wish for which Samen voor Eindhoven is now looking for help from companies: digital bingo. Care centre Archipel Dommelhoef normally offers bingo in a room, but that is not allowed now. Digital bingo would be a good alternative. Dommelhoef hopes that there are companies that can make this technically possible. For example, the elderly should have an iPad in their room or some other means of playing virtual bingo. Hofstede hopes that companies will mail suggestions about this to her. "If digital bingo is successful in the Dommelhoef, other residential care centres can adopt the approach."

Learning from experience elsewhere with Corona

Hofstede also calls on all social organisations to report to Samen voor Eindhoven and to share any wishes they may have. Vitalis is in any case very happy with the helping hand. There is so much coming towards us at the moment", says Vitalis project coordinator Sylvia van Aggel. Lots of people want to do something for our elderly. We are very happy that there is a professional organisation that is willing to take care of this."

Samen voor Eindhoven works together with NLCares and Points of Light, among others. They share knowledge and experiences of colleagues in other countries who already have experience with volunteering in the corona crisis.
