More than 1,000 liters of soup a year plus sandwiches for the city's homeless. The cooperation between Eindhoven's hospitality industry, the Salvation Army and volunteers through Samen voor Eindhoven has been in place for over 3 years.
Gastvrij Eindhoven: hospitality entrepreneurs together provide soup bus for homeless people
Every week the Salvation Army's soup bus distributes food to homeless people all year round. Many Eindhoven hotels are involved in this and of course the Salvation Army Eindhoven. Together they provide soup and bread and the necessary materials (plates/spoons etc) every week.
"It's more than just about that cup of soup. There is a listening ear and someone who has made soup for you, pours it for you and wants to make time for you. That can do a lot for someone's self-esteem," said former Alderman Jannie Visscher about this initiative.
Corporate community embraces soup bus
Through the mediation of Samen voor Eindhoven, many partners have enthusiastically committed themselves to the soup bus, often for several years. Samen voor Eindhoven mobilizes corporate volunteers from the business community to contribute their time and talent to society. Many have already committed themselves once (or more often) by driving soup or distributing soup and sandwiches to homeless people in the city.
In September 2015, 193 countries agreed to the 17 Global Goals for Sustainable Development, or Sustainable Development Goals. When achieved, these goals will mean an end to extreme poverty, inequality and climate change by 2030. When something happens to the earth it affects us all. The Global Goals are the first global agenda in which 193 countries agreed to create change for a better world. The Global Goals affect everyone, including you. With the soup bus, we are contributing to Global Goal 2: no hunger.
