MO040 XL: 24 Hours Hackathon, Pro Bono Lab, Melting Pot Dinners and Jubilee Dinner

Over 500 matches in 5 years.

In five years, companies and civil society organisations made more than 500 successful matches during the bi-annual Social Business 040 Dinner. This became clear at the end of MO040XL, the 24-hour marathon on 16 and 17 October that marked the first anniversary of this initiative. It was a day full of activities that brought a total of around 600 people to their feet for the good cause. On Monday evening, DLL, the municipality of Eindhoven and Samen voor Eindhoven (Together for Eindhoven) organised the MO040 Diner for the 10th time, which has grown into an indispensable link for companies that want to contribute something to the city and social organisations that need extra knowledge, skills or hands. At the end of the day, the Impact 040 association was launched, with the aim of better securing the momentum of the MO040 dinners and the many activities that have come about as a result in Eindhoven society.

Hackathon

The MO040XL day was kicked off with a night-time 'Hackathon' about the refugee issue, in which over 40 people participated under the guidance of Woonbedrijf employees. Among them were entrepreneurs, professionals from various disciplines and (former) refugees. The results were presented in the morning to Ton Wilthagen, Professor of Labour Markets at Tilburg University and to the members of Impact040. They immediately adopted four of the hacks: the Locamiga app for refugees, a specialised employment agency, 'city in a city' and the 'professional integration plan'. The groups showed that it is important to focus on communities and collaboration, but above all on opportunities rather than problems.

ProBono Lab

Immediately after the conclusion of the hackathon, the ProBono Lab started. Led by Samen voor Eindhoven, 10 professionals from ASML, Banning Advocaten, Communicatie raakt, DLL, Municipality of Eindhoven, Manpower, Njoy! and PWC gave free advice for one day on the most important development issues of Foundation i.o. Circulo (Drents Dorp), the new community centre FAB28 (Burghplan) and the Humanitas Foundation. After a thorough analysis, they formulated project briefings for a business plan, a recruitment strategy for volunteers and a sustainable earning model. These briefings are the input for the next ProBono Marathon.

Melting Pot dinners

From 5 pm onwards, 10 groups consisting of employees of Eindhoven companies and employees and clients of social institutions came together at nine locations in the city. Led by TV chef Mounir Toub (known from 24Kitchen) they cooked and ate together, using ingredients from a mystery box. These Melting Pot dinners brought more than 100 people together. Participating parties were DLL, Banning Lawyers, Municipality of Eindhoven, JCI de Kempen Serviceclub, Reijnders Advocaten, Ladies Circle, Rabobank Eindhoven-Veldhoven, Hanos, Manpower, Huiskamer van het Jongerenhuis, Buurthuis FAB28, Labrehuis Neos, Stichting Ik Wil, 't Hemeltje, Vitalis Wissehaege, Prismanet and SNV Stichting Vluchtelingenwerk Nederland.

MO040 dinner

Together with these Melting Pot dinners, the traditional MO040 Dinner took place in the Van der Valk Hotel Eindhoven. During this anniversary edition, 20 companies and 20 social organisations came together to eat, but especially to find ways to help each other. Supply and demand were matched with closed purses. Over 65 matches were made during this dinner, bringing the total of 5 years of MO040 Diner to over 100 matches. Together, this accounts for thousands of hours of knowledge transfer and commitment of the companies for social organisations such as Stichting Ervaring die Staat, Vitalis Woonzorg Groep, GGzE, #Awesome, Uit de Buurtfabriek and Markieza.

Establishment of Impact040

To conclude 24 hours of MO040XL, there was a festive evening kicked off by Mayor Jorritsma and Leon Noorlander of the national taskforce Social Affairs & Employment. During this party, attended by more than 200 participants from previous years, Impact040 was launched. This association, of Eindhoven-based companies that do social business, will work at a strategic level to strengthen existing and start new projects, in order to address the social issues in our city more effectively.

Partners

MO040XL was made possible by a collaboration between DLL, the municipality of Eindhoven, NXP, PwC, Banning Advocaten, Rabobank Eindhoven-Veldhoven, Woonbedrijf, Van der Valk Hotel Eindhoven and Samen voor Eindhoven.
