Broad prosperity VNO-NCW and MKB Nederland "Doing business for broad prosperity".

Entrepreneurship for Prosperity'. That, in a nutshell, is the new vision of VNO-NCW and MKB-Nederland, which the organisations announced on 10 February 2021. After an extensive dialogue with members and society, business organisations have opted for a new compass that focuses on achieving a society with equal opportunities and work, a sustainable living environment and sufficient economic growth to make that broad prosperity possible. Moreover, the business community wants to take more responsibility for solving social issues.

With 'Broad Prosperity' as their guiding principle and a new role in the interplay with government and society, VNO-NCW and MKB-Nederland want to give shape to a new Rhineland model. And in this video, Ingrid Thijssen (chair VNO-NCW) and Jacco Vonhof (chair MKB-Nederland) tell us more about it.

Entrepreneurship for Prosperity

VNO-NCW and MKB-Nederland presented their new vision: 'Entrepreneurship for Prosperity'.

  • Societal challenges are growing and becoming more urgent. The government cannot do it alone. Moreover, the business community wants to take more responsibility for solving social issues;
  • Voluntary action is one of the ways to connect the social challenge with business;
  • Samen voor Eindhoven is a member of Vereniging NOV, the national branch association that puts voluntary action on the map in the Netherlands, strengthens its position and defends the interests of voluntary action in society. One of NOV's spearheads in the National Year of Voluntary Effort 2021 is to involve the business community even more as a conduit to voluntary efforts. This naturally fits in with the mission of Together for Eindhoven.

This fits in seamlessly with the ten principles of the new direction and vision of VNO-NCW and MKB Nederland:

  • Encouraging cooperation between businesses on social issues and
  • Embracing the SDGs or Sustainable Development Goals.

Rhineland Model 2.0
The original Rhineland Model implied that companies not only considered the interests of the shareholder but also those of other stakeholders such as customers and employees. The Netherlands has always upheld this model and has not switched to the Anglo-Saxon way of thinking, in which the interests of the shareholder are all that matter. We are now going a step further. In thinking: as a company, also taking responsibility for an inclusive and sustainable society. And in doing: by actively wanting to contribute to this in practice. This is important because some of the issues facing our society are so big and complex that the specific forces of government, businesses and citizens must join forces to solve them. It has long been the case: every man for himself and the government for all of us, but the government cannot do it alone. Nobody can do it alone.
