Soup for the homeless

The soup bike of the Salvation Army in Eindhoven goes out every Monday and Wednesday evening. Volunteers from the Salvation Army cycle past all known places where they can find homeless people on the streets of our city. For a cup of soup and a sandwich but also to check how they are doing. For years, various Eindhoven catering entrepreneurs have been involved in this initiative and have been cooking liters of fresh soup every week, which (company) volunteers hand out for free with the soup bike.

Carlo van Hest, Hotel Manager Park Plaza Eindhoven, explains why Park Plaza makes soup and what it brings them:

"In cooperation with Samen voor Eindhoven and the Salvation Army, a number of Eindhoven hospitality businesses have long joined forces to offer a helping hand to those in our city who by choice or misfortune do deserve a boost. The participants are all commercial enterprises that occupy a place in the neighborhood, profiting and earning from the attractiveness of the city of lights. The participants recognize that this also brings with it the responsibility to contribute to the social domain. So it is with great enthusiasm that "the ladies" of the kitchen cook the richly filled soup, of course according to a strictly secret recipe, which is distributed to the homeless from the soup bicycle at the central location. And very occasionally the colleagues go along to take a look at the distribution location - a real eye-opener! Does it generate extra turnover? Probably not. Of course we are proud of our participation in various projects, and we like to communicate this to our partners and shareholders, but the real "return" from participation actually lies more in the feeling of being able to give something substantial back. I highly recommend it to every entrepreneur. Small effort, big gesture."
