Groot Eindhoven: 450 children provided with laptops

Corona measures have caused the Dutch to start using digital technology en masse to work or socialize. Laptop use has also become more important for elementary school students. When a school is forced to close, education continues online.

GREAT EINDHOVEN - Stichting Allemaal Digitaal and the Eindhoven Library have been able to provide some relief with a donation of 450 laptops. Together with governments, civil society organizations and the ICT sector, the foundation collected used laptops throughout the country. 450 were then donated to the Eindhoven Library.

The library is present at all SPIL centers in Eindhoven and Waalre. This enabled it to make an accurate inventory of where the need was greatest. Thursday, December 3, was the day: 450 children throughout Eindhoven and Waalre received their own laptop.

'Important start'
Jeroen de Vries is associated with the library as a media coach. "The inventory showed that over a thousand students do not have their own device to properly participate in digital education. So the four hundred and fifty we have now been allowed to give away is not enough. But it is a very nice and very important start."

Tears
Eleven students from Fellenoord Elementary School, located at 310 Hemelrijken, received a laptop together with their parents. Simone Verschuren is internal supervisor at Fellenoord: "During the time of corona, we really found out that not every child has a device at home for school work. When we were able to inform eleven families that they would receive a laptop they couldn't believe it and there were tears of joy."
