The Van Gijzel family can almost fill a vase with silver tulips, the award of the Eindhoven Press Club. That awards one or more tulips annually to people who have special significance for the city or region.

Father Jan van Gijzel, journalist for the Free People, was one of the first recipients. Last night, his sons Rob and Jan both received one from the sixty-year-old Eindhoven Press Club. Architect Stefan de Bever and social action club Samen voor Eindhoven also received a silver tulip. This brings the tally to 101. "I would have found a silver light bulb more appropriate," former mayor Rob van Gijzel began his acceptance speech. "Then you don't know Eindhoven's history!" cried brother Jan. He was referring to the Tulip Rally that DAF organized every year. Prize winners were honored with a silver tulip.

In 1975 there were a few left and they joined the press club. The first was for Rinus Goossens, trainer of E.V.V. Eindhoven, promoted to the premier league, said Jan van Gijzel.

Together for Eindhoven received the tulip for its initiative to allow employees of companies to dedicate one day a year to social organizations in the city. "Eindhoven has 70,000 employed people. If we can get 20 percent of those to work, just imagine!" said Anna-Geertje van Eert. The fourth tulip was for architect Stefan de Bever, of the fourth generation of architects. The dynasty has left its mark on the city with designs for neighborhoods such as the Bennekel, Lakerlopen and Philipsdorp, in addition to landmark buildings such as Evoluon and the Rabobank headquarters.

14th place FRITS TOP 50
This year we have again received a place in the FRITS TOP 50 of most influential Eindhoven citizens: "Esther Schoustra and Anna-Geertje together pull the Together for Eindhoven cart. Tireless and charming in their actions on behalf of civil society organizations. They mobilize the knowledge and skills of companies and their employees for numerous social organizations and recently noted the thousandth match." Wine are proud of these words and even prouder of all the companies involved and the more than 1,000 corporate volunteers who join us in working for a more beautiful Eindhoven!
